1. Export a chat
In your messaging app, use its “Export Chat” feature to save a conversation. This produces a .zip file (optionally including photos, videos and voice messages). Save it to Files or iCloud Drive.
2. Import it into Chat Memories
Open Chat Memories, tap Import, and choose the export. You can pick a Chat export (.zip) or, if you've already unzipped it, an Extracted folder. You can also share an export directly to Chat Memories from another app.

Is my data private?
Yes. Chat Memories reads and indexes your archive only on your device. It has no accounts and makes no network connections of its own — nothing is uploaded or collected. See the privacy policy.
Which chat exports are supported?
Standard chat-export archives, such as the .zip produced by WhatsApp's “Export Chat” feature, and the equivalent extracted folder. Exports vary by app, platform and language; if one doesn't import cleanly, email me a note about its format and I'll look into it.
How do I set a photo for someone?
Tap a participant's icon — in the chat header or on a voice message — and choose a photo from your library. It's stored privately on your device and appears on their messages and in your chat list.
Why does a photo or video show a download indicator?
When your archive is an iCloud Drive folder, media stays in the cloud until you open it, to save space on your phone. Tapping it downloads just that item. Make sure you have a network connection.
The dates look wrong — day and month are swapped.
Chat exports don't always state whether dates are day/month or month/day. Chat Memories detects the order automatically, and offers a toggle during import (and in the chat's settings) if it's ambiguous. Switch it there and the chat re-reads instantly.
How do I remove a chat?
In your library, use the menu on a chat and choose Remove from library. This deletes only the imported index on your device — your original archive in Files or iCloud Drive is left untouched.
Does opening links share anything?
No. Tapping a link opens it in your browser; at that point your browser contacts the site, not Chat Memories. The app never fetches link contents or previews.
